Solution of Reservoir Seepage Control System

I. Importance of reservoir seepage prevention

With the increasing crisis of water resources in China, how to use water resources scientifically and reasonably has become an important issue of common concern all over the world. At present, our country is also building a large number of water conservancy projects, so more and more attention is paid to the problem of seepage prevention in water conservancy projects. The traditional anti-seepage methods can not meet the development of water conservancy projects, so it is necessary to use new anti-seepage methods to ensure the rational use of water resources.

Reservoir leakage not only directly affects the normal operation of the reservoir, it will seriously endanger the safety of the reservoir earth dam. In particular, the plain reservoir is located in the alluvial plain downstream of the river, the surface layer is clay or subclay, the thickness is thin, the lower part is clay fine sand, seepage greater penetration and thicker thickness. Therefore, the plain reservoir is prone to leakage problems. To solve the leakage problem of plain reservoir, engineering measures must be taken.

II. Application of geomembrane to anti-seepage works of reservoirs

Geomembrane is a flexible anti-seepage material with reliable anti-seepage function. The earliest application of geomembrane can be traced back to the 1920s and 1930s, people used polyvinyl chloride PVC geomembrane as impervious material for swimming pool; in the early 1950s, the United States Reclamation Bureau used PVC geomembrane as impervious lining; and the former Soviet Union used polyethylene film to prevent seepage through channels.

Although the research and application of geomembrane in China started late, it developed rapidly. In the mid-1960s, plastic film was used to prevent seepage in the channel. The earlier projects included Henan People's Shengli Canal, Shaanxi People's Invitation Canal, Beijing Northeast Wang Irrigation District and several irrigation areas in Shanxi Province.

Geomembrane has the characteristics of high strength, good elasticity, wear resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, no mildew, no fear of moth, etc. It is used in water conservancy seepage prevention project. It has the advantages of simple structure, easy construction, easy guarantee of quality, fast construction progress and low cost.

Geomembrane can be used for seepage prevention of reservoir pan, vertical or inclined seepage prevention wall of earth-rock dam, upstream seepage prevention paving of sluice dam, seepage prevention layer of water retaining surface of concrete dam, seepage prevention layer of asphalt concrete face or concrete face rockfill dam, seepage prevention layer of initial dam of tailings dam, seepage prevention of channel, seepage prevention of sewage and closure of hazardous waste yard, etc.
